BSPA Managing Director

Tina has been involved, as Managing Director, with the running of the Company since it was established in 2010.  Supported by an excellent team, Tina, has developed BSPA into Northern Ireland’s leading theatre school which currently has ten schools and a Performance Academy drawing children from across the Province.

Every week hundreds of boys and girls enjoy three hours of professional dance, acting and singing tuition and it has been a pleasure for Tina to watch them all grow in confidence and skill.  Many BSPA pupils have gone on to study professionally at the UK’s top drama schools and universities whilst others have gained confidence and enjoyment performing with local and national amateur companies.

Tina is responsible for administrating the numerous and varied range of opportunities provided for BSPA pupils and their parents, including Theatre Skill Workshops, Summer Projects, Theatre trips to London, Disneyland Paris and New York as well as opportunities to perform throughout Northern Ireland.

Tina’s involvement in theatre began at the age of 8 when she was cast as ‘Jane’ in Mary Poppins. Her love of music was developed further at Methodist College, Belfast under the guidance of Billy McKay and John Anderson. Tina was one of the youngest members of their renowned Chapel Choir and became a regular soloist in their concert programme. She was first introduced to the magic of Musical Theatre as a student teacher at Stranmillis College, Belfast, performing in the wonderful musicals of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Tina joined Belfast Operatic Company in 1986 and has performed regularly in the Grand Opera House. She was the Company’s Secretary for over 14 years and was actively involved in the organisation and running of the Company. Tina’s knowledge and experience of the performing industry made her the ideal person to assume responsibility for setting up the business side of BSPA.

As a qualified Nursery Teacher ( Special Needs), Tina has particularly enjoyed the development of the BSPA Juniors for children aged 3-5 years. ‘It is wonderful to see these very young children join the BSPA Family as this is an age group very dear to my heart. I am looking forward to seeing them gain confidence and move up to the main school whilst having a lot of fun along the way.’

Nothing gives Tina more satisfaction than seeing a BSPA show come together on the stage, knowing all the hard work that has gone into its production, both onstage and behind the scenes, and seeing the progress that each child has made whilst enjoying themselves and forming lasting friendships.  She works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything is just perfect for each show.

Tina is keen to provide the best opportunities and experiences, in all aspects of Musical Theatre, through BSPA for the wealth of talent in Northern Ireland. Tina is delighted to have the support of Peter Corry as BSPA’s Artistic Director as he is able to share his vast knowledge and professional experience at the highest level with BSPA.
