About Amanda Rankin
Drama teacher – BSPA Holywood Rd
Amanda Rankin grew up near Philadelphia in the USA. As a child and teen she was very involved in her schools’ music and drama programmes- playing violin in the orchestra, singing with prestigious choirs, and performing with the theatre programme. It was in these programmes that she learned the discipline, passion, and resilience it takes to rehearse and perform. Thankfully, she also discovered how much she loved it!
When she was 18, she felt inspired to postpone her university plans and see what other adventures life had in store. She then found herself flying across the Atlantic to see what awaited her in a wee place called Northern Ireland. For the year, she volunteered as a youth worker. The first year led to a second, during which she met her Northern Irish husband, and the rest is now history, as they say!
With the birth of her first daughter, Amanda left youth work and felt the pull towards music and the theatre arts again. For a number of years she worked as a drum instructor, bringing drum circles to schools around the country. She has worked as a professional actor since 2017, from street performances as a witch or an elf or even Mrs Clause herself, to writing and directing her own short film. In 2018, she won “Most Promising Young Player” at the Ulster Drama Festival for her role as Frida Foldal with The Clarence Players. In 2020, she and her two daughters were featured in an ad for Hughes Insurance.
Looking to expand her skills and knowledge of musical theatre, Amanda went back to school in 2018 and studied full time at the International College of Musical Theatre in Belfast. She is very grateful for her two years spent at the ICMT where she honed her skills in singing, acting, and dance.
Amanda is passionate about seeing young people discover their true potential and run with it. The experiences that theatre gave her as a teenager will be with her forever, and she is excited to give her students at BSPA the same gift.
